A must-visit. The Egyptian museum of Cairo (EMC) is the oldest museum in the region. It was Designed by French Architect Marcel Dourgnon in 1895 for a competition to create the first purpose-built building that houses antiquities. The museum first opened its doors in 1902, and since then, it has been the leading institution for Egyptology in Egypt and around the world.

Even though the King and Queen mummies have found their last resting place in the new Museum of Civilization, the EMC houses more than 170,000 antiquities spanning from prehistory up to the Graeco-Roman period.

Located in the centre of Historic Cairo, the citadel is a large 12th century fortress overlooking the city. Be fascinated by its winding alleys and streets exuding mystery yet buzzing with life. The citadel is rich in history, with Coptic churches at every corner and three mosques. Visitors should pay a visit to Al-Azhar Mosque in particular, home to the oldest university in the world.
